    • Last week my public lectures got noted by CGP Grey, maker of awesome videos.

Well, that man is me. I am giving a public lecture on building your own measurement equipment and on the theory of measurements. I explain how often you need to measure to get good measurements. I already intended to make an English dubbed version of my lectures for my international students. The interest of, among others, CGP Grey prompted me to speed up and do the dubbing this weekend.

      Some background:

      • The University of The Netherlands is an organisation that (I quote) "hosts the best academic lecturers of the Netherlands", it is not an university as such. I work at Delft University of Technology and have honoured by the invitation from The University of The Netherlands to give five fifteen-minute lectures aimed at the general public. The lectures were given (and recorded) in club Air in Amsterdam. The lectures are published on the website of The University of The Netherlands (and on Youtube).
      • The lectures, being aimed at the Dutch general public, are in Dutch, which also happens to be my native language. The dubbing is not done in a professional environment, but in my own living room. I did the dubbing in one take. I listened to myself giving the lecture in Dutch and instantly recorded the voice-over in English. I am happy with the results, but have to make a few remarks:
      • I sound even more Dutch than usual, and English with a dutch accent is, in my opinion, among the ugliest English you can get. I apologise for any damage inflicted.
      • There is no lip-syncing, which feels weird at times.
      • Except for the intro and ending, I mute the original (Dutch) sound. This means that no sound from the audience is heard. Furthermore, my living room has a different soundscape than club Air. I am also more relaxed in my living room when compared to a stage like club Air. To get an impression of the original atmosphere, please watch the Dutch videos.

I embedded all five lectures below, but you can also watch them on my own youtube channel here.
